 Occupational Therapy Minimize

These professionals have a diverse background in child development that enables them to address the physical, social, and emotional impacts of injury or disability on the child and the family. The occupational therapist (OT) is uniquely trained to identify barriers in the child’s surroundings that interfere with his or her effective interaction with their daily environment. Evaluation and treatment focuses on engaging the child in meaningful activities that allow for successful performance of daily life skills including self-care skills (dressing, feeding, grooming and hygiene) play skills and social interaction skills. OT’s will provide families with the tools and resources to help the child carry out daily activities with as much independence as possible, whether through development of skills or training in the use of adaptive equipment.

Treatment specifically addresses:

   •    Fine motor development and coordination
   •    Visual and perceptual motor development
   •    Upper extremity muscle strength and range of motion
   •    Balance, coordination, and postural control
   •    Self-help skills (activities of daily living)
   •    Sensory integration, processing and organizational skills
   •    Play and socialization skills
   •    Use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices


  

 Physical Therapy Minimize

These professionals have a strong understanding of the physical and anatomical limitations that result from disability and injury. The physical therapist (PT) is uniquely trained to identify the child’s physical challenges and limitations that interfere with his or her ability to effectively interact within their daily environment. Evaluation and treatment focuses in engaging the child in meaningful activities that allow for practice and mastery of specific skills to encourage independence and function.

Treatment specifically addresses:

   •    Gross motor development, ambulation, gait, mobility
   •    Gross-motor muscle strength and range of motion
   •    Balance, coordination, postural control and alignment
   •    Use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices, positioning
   •    Orthotic and prosthetic order/ fabrication, and training in use


  

 Speech Therapy Minimize

These professionals have an extensive background in the use of human communication, studying the development of communication as well as disorders that impair communication. The speech and language pathologist (SLP) is uniquely trained to identify the child’s communicative challenges and limitations that negatively impact his or her ability to effectively interact within their daily environment. Evaluation and treatment focuses on engaging the child in meaningful activities to develop functional tools for communication within their daily environment. Such treatment focuses on remediation of the disability along with development of skills as well as augmentation of the environment to allow the child to successfully communicate with others functionally and independently.

   •    Expressive language development (articulation, voice, fluency, dysarthria, and apraxia)

   •    Augmentative communication
